MCE
Renewable electricity for 38 Bay Area communities, and programs that help homes and businesses use less.
About
MCE is the not-for-profit public agency that supplies electricity to homes and businesses in 38 communities across Contra Costa, Marin, Napa and Solano counties, more than 1.8 million people in all. It began service in 2010 as Marin Clean Energy, California's first Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), and elected leaders from its member communities govern it. Its offices are in San Rafael and Concord.
What MCE does
MCE buys the power its customers use. PG&E still delivers it over its lines, maintains them, sends the bill and provides natural gas. Customers choose their service: Light Green, which is 60% renewable, or Deep Green, matched 100% with renewable sources such as solar and wind for a small added charge per kilowatt-hour. Half of the Deep Green charge goes back into local climate programs. Anyone who prefers PG&E service can choose it instead. MCE reinvests in its communities through energy efficiency and electric vehicle programs, rebates for homes and businesses, and financial assistance for customers who need a lower bill.
For businesses
Commercial, industrial, agricultural and municipal customers in the service area can get rebates and incentives for efficiency upgrades such as lighting, motors, refrigeration and water heating; start-to-finish support for EV charging projects; help choosing the right rate; and a dedicated energy expert who looks for savings in day-to-day operations. Contractors who electrify homes can enroll in MCE's contractor programs and appear on its Contractor Finder. MCE also buys through public solicitations (requests for offers, proposals and qualifications) and encourages women-, minority- and LGBTQ+-owned businesses to register with the California Public Utilities Commission's Supplier Clearinghouse.

Common questions
VerifiedDo I have to leave PG&E to be an MCE customer?
No. MCE supplies the electricity, and PG&E still delivers it, maintains the lines, sends the bill and provides natural gas. If your PG&E bill shows an MCE Electric Generation Charge, you are already an MCE customer. You can choose PG&E service instead at any time on mcecleanenergy.org.
How does my business switch to 100% renewable power?
Existing MCE customers opt up to Deep Green online with their PG&E account number, or by calling (888) 632-3674 or emailing info@mcecleanenergy.org, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Deep Green adds a small charge per kilowatt-hour; the current amount is on MCE's Deep Green page.
What can MCE do about my business's energy costs?
Business customers in the service area can get rebates for efficiency upgrades, support for EV charging projects, a check that they are on the right rate for how they use power, and a dedicated energy expert who looks for operational savings. Start at mcecleanenergy.org/solutions-for-business.
I'm a contractor or a vendor. How do I work with MCE?
Contractors who electrify homes in the service area can enroll in MCE's contractor programs for incentives, training and hiring support, and join the Contractor Finder after their first qualifying project. Other vendors can sign up on MCE's solicitations page for notices of upcoming requests for offers, proposals and qualifications.
