Amit Pal, a small business owner and former planning commissioner, has served on the Suisun City Council since his appointment in January 2023 and won a full term in 2024. He is one of five candidates for mayor of Suisun City on November 3, 2026, challenging Mayor Alma Hernandez, and his council term runs to 2028.
Background
Amit Pal immigrated from India and moved to Suisun City as a child in 1993, according to his ballot statement; he and his wife are raising their family in the city. He describes himself as a small business owner. He served as a volunteer police cadet and on the city's Planning Commission, and he worked with residents to establish the Suisun City Community Foundation, which his statement credits with saving the downtown Fourth of July celebration. At his 2023 swearing-in he thanked the Sikh community for its support, and his business mentor, C.C. Yin, gave him a ceremonial oath.
In office
The council appointed Pal on January 24, 2023, by unanimous consensus, to the last two years of the seat Hernandez left when she became mayor. Councilwoman Jenalee Dawson noted his business sense, and Hernandez said the council needed someone with his experience in city government. Pal said he was humbled. Voters elected him to a full term on November 5, 2024, with 35.00 percent of the vote.
His ballot statement says he helped bring one of Solano County's first entertainment zone policies to Suisun City to support downtown restaurants, and that he pushed for open bidding when the garbage and recycling contract came up for renewal, which it says saved residents money. In June 2025 he voiced support for a reimbursement agreement with California Forever, which is part of the city's study of annexing the company's land, but he was in Scotland and not online when the council approved it 3-1. In August 2025 he was among the five council members served with recall papers. Organizer James Berg told CBS Sacramento the council was being "walked all over by city staff," and resident Brent Finger, who helped lead the effort, said the city was going backward on public safety and homelessness.
On the ballot
Pal is one of five candidates for mayor on November 3, 2026, with the ballot designation Councilmember / Business Owner. The others are Mayor Alma Hernandez, Chauncey Banks, Michael Jefferson and Lilia Dardon. KQED reports he voted to explore annexation so residents' questions about traffic, water and utilities could be answered, and lists roads, infrastructure and public safety as his priorities. It lists endorsements from State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Supervisor Mitch Mashburn, Councilmembers Parise Shepherd and Princess Washington, and the Suisun City Police Officers Association. His council seat would be vacated if he wins.
