Michael McCorriston

Councilmember, District 1, Dublin

Running for Mayor of Dublin

Michael McCorriston has served on the Dublin City Council since 2020, including about six months as appointed mayor in 2024, and has represented District 1 since winning that seat unopposed in 2024. He is challenging Mayor Sherry Hu for Mayor of Dublin on the November 3, 2026 ballot, along with Kiran Mohammad.

Background

Michael McCorriston holds a bachelor's degree in business finance from San Jose State University and an MBA from the University of San Diego. His October 2026 Patch questionnaire describes him as a retired financial professional with more than 40 years in corporate finance, banking and treasury, and The Independent reported in January 2026 that his LinkedIn profile lists work as assistant treasurer at TD Synnex. Pleasanton Weekly reported that month that he has lived in Dublin for more than 30 years and that his children attended school there. He has served on boards and committees covering transportation, land use, water resources, economic development, human services and housing, and he leads the council's finance and investment committee.

In office

McCorriston was elected to the Dublin City Council in 2020. On June 4, 2024, after Mayor Melissa Hernandez resigned to join the BART Board of Directors, the council voted 4-0 to appoint him mayor for the rest of her term. He agreed not to run for mayor that November and instead won the new District 1 seat unopposed, a term that runs to December 2028. Sherry Hu succeeded him as mayor in December 2024.

In his Patch questionnaire he says he supported budget items adding public safety staff and equipment, worked with residents and merchants on rising burglaries and introduced an e-bike and scooter enforcement framework that helped lead to a city ordinance. He also says he worked with residents, city staff, police and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office on concerns about inmate releases near the county jail, and helped organize a firearms safety and storage seminar.

When he announced his campaign in January 2026, he said every resident deserves to feel "informed, heard and valued by their elected official." He called for keeping reserves and explaining budget decisions to residents, noted that the city has had budget surpluses over the past decade, and said development must be economically and environmentally sustainable.

On the ballot

McCorriston is a candidate for Mayor of Dublin on the November 3, 2026 ballot, with the ballot designation Councilmember. He is running against Mayor Sherry Hu, who is seeking a second two-year term, and Kiran Mohammad, an author and first-time candidate. He lists public safety, responsible growth with housing and infrastructure, and fiscal sustainability as his top priorities, along with support for local businesses and senior services. His District 1 term runs to December 2028, and a win would vacate that seat.
