Sherry Hu

Mayor of Dublin

On the Nov. 3 ballot

Sherry Hu has been mayor of Dublin since December 2024, after four years on the City Council, and holds a doctorate in architectural engineering. She is seeking a second two-year term on the November 3, 2026 ballot, against Councilmember Michael McCorriston and Kiran Mohammad.

Background

Sherry Hu holds a doctorate in architectural engineering and is a Certified Financial Planner, according to her October 2026 candidate questionnaire with Patch. Her career has included work as an assistant professor at UNLV and a project manager at PG&E, and she founded Peace of Mind Finance and directed Beyond Academy. Pleasanton Weekly describes her as a longtime Dublin resident whose two children attended Dublin schools. The Independent reported in 2023 that she had been a classroom parent at Kolb Elementary School and vice president of the Fallon Middle School PTA, and that she co-founded Above Beyond Leadership Education, which the city named its 2023 Organization of the Year. She has served on the East Bay Community Energy executive board and the Alameda County Library Advisory Commission.

In office

Hu was elected to the Dublin City Council in 2020. In 2024, at the end of her first council term, she ran for mayor in a four-candidate field and won with 9,264 votes (36.35 percent) in the count Pleasanton Weekly reported on November 21, ahead of Tom Evans (32.44 percent), Councilmember Jean Josey (27.98 percent) and Shawn Costello (3.24 percent). She succeeded Michael McCorriston, whom the council had appointed mayor in June 2024, and was sworn in that December. Dublin's mayor serves a two-year term.

In November 2025, when residents and activists asked the council to oppose reopening the closed federal prison FCI Dublin as an immigration detention facility, Hu thanked the speakers, said she is a first-generation immigrant and asked City Manager Colleen Tribby for an update on the city's steps.

Announcing her re-election campaign that month, Hu cited a $36 million General Fund surplus, $325 million in reserves and more than 100 new businesses. Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert, Dublin's mayor from 2014 to 2020, said at her kickoff that he was honored to support her again, Patch reported. In 2026 she has also cited three new parks and a U.S. News & World Report ranking of Dublin as the best place to live in California for 2026-2027.

On the ballot

Hu is a candidate for Mayor of Dublin on the November 3, 2026 ballot, seeking a second two-year term. Her ballot designation is Mayor/Entrepreneur/Engineer. Her opponents are Councilmember Michael McCorriston, who served as appointed mayor from June to December 2024, and Kiran Mohammad, an author and first-time candidate. Hu lists public safety, fiscal responsibility, and parks and infrastructure, including the reconstruction of Village Parkway and improvements to Tassajara Road, among her priorities. The winner serves through December 2028.
