What a dental laboratory usually makes
A business of this kind usually works behind the scenes of a dental office rather than with patients. Dentists send an impression or a digital scan along with a written prescription, and the lab returns finished pieces: crowns and bridges, full and partial dentures, restorations that sit on implants, and night guards or other appliances.
Labs around Concord typically serve a group of regular practices within driving distance, and repairs and relines of existing dentures make up a steady share of the work. Some specialise in one kind of case, such as removable dentures or ceramic crowns, while others take a broad mix.
Sending work to a lab like this
For a dental office, the practical questions come first. How many working days does each type of case take, and is there a rush option? Does the lab accept files from an intraoral scanner, or only physical impressions? Which materials does it work in, and how are remakes handled when a crown does not seat or a denture rubs? Pickup and delivery arrangements matter too, along with how cases are tracked and invoiced.
Patients with a broken denture should usually start with their own dentist, who sends the repair to a lab. A few labs accept walk-in repairs, so phone before turning up at the building. Dental laboratories are not overseen by the Dental Board of California in the way dentists are, which makes it reasonable to ask about the technicians' training and the documentation that comes with each material.

Preguntas frecuentes
Típico de este tipo de negocioCan a patient go directly to a dental laboratory?
Usually not. Labs work from a dentist's prescription, and the dentist fits and adjusts the finished piece. Some labs accept denture repairs directly, so phone before visiting.
How long does a dental lab take to return a crown?
Many labs quote one to two weeks of working days for a standard crown, longer for dentures made in stages. Rush service, where offered, is arranged in advance with the lab.
Do dental labs accept digital scans?
Many now take files from intraoral scanners as well as physical impressions. A dental office should confirm the file formats and scanner systems a lab accepts before sending the first case.
What happens if a crown or denture does not fit?
Labs normally have a remake or adjustment policy agreed with the dental office. Ask how remakes are handled, how long they take and whether there is any charge before sending work.
