Acerca de

Niles is the old railroad-and-silent-film corner of Fremont, tucked under the hills where Niles Canyon opens out, and its elementary school on Second Street is where Adventure Time Niles runs its before- and after-school program. The program has been on this campus since 1995. It is one of fifteen school sites operated by Adventure Time Extended Day Care, ten of them in Fremont and five in Castro Valley, and Kristie Arredondo is the manager for this one.

A day in the program

Children arrive before the first bell and are walked to class when school starts; after dismissal they come back to the program room until a parent collects them. The operator describes two tracks: its traditional fee-based program and the state's Expanded Learning Opportunities Program, known as ELOP, which the school district funds for eligible families. Both cover the same afternoon of homework time, snack, outdoor play and enrichment activities. The operator says it has looked after elementary-age children for more than four decades and holds a separate state Community Care licence for each site, this one included.

Enrolling a child

Because the program sits on a public-school campus, only children enrolled at Niles Elementary can attend. Spaces fill early in the year, so call the site directly rather than the operator's main office to ask about a waiting list. Have your child's school schedule, emergency contacts and any allergy or medication information ready, and ask whether your family qualifies for ELOP before paying for the traditional program. Ask how pick-up authorisation works and what happens on minimum days and school holidays.

Families it serves

The site serves Niles Elementary families, who live mostly in the Niles district and the surrounding parts of Fremont; the operator's other sites cover Newark, Union City, Hayward, Milpitas, San Leandro, Sunol and Pleasanton families through their own schools. Second Street is two blocks from Niles Boulevard and the Niles Town Plaza.

The site phone is 510-797-4806.

Preguntas frecuentes

Típico de este tipo de negocio
Can my child attend if they go to a different school?

Programs on a school campus normally serve only that school's students. Ask the operator whether one of its other Fremont or Castro Valley sites is on your child's campus.

What is ELOP and how do I know if we qualify?

ELOP is California's Expanded Learning Opportunities Program, funded through school districts for eligible students. Ask the school office or the site about eligibility before paying for a traditional program slot.

What should I check about a child care licence?

Ask for the site's Community Care Licensing number and look it up on the California Department of Social Services facility search, which shows the licence status and any inspection reports.

Is there a waiting list?

After-school programs often fill before the school year starts. Call the site early, ask how the waiting list works, and whether part-time or drop-in days are available.

Antes de contratar

  • Look up the site's Community Care Licensing number on the California Department of Social Services facility search.
  • Ask whether your family qualifies for the state ELOP track before enrolling in the fee-based program.
  • Confirm pick-up authorisation, late pick-up rules and what happens on minimum days and holidays.
  • Ask about the adult-to-child ratio and who supervises the program room each afternoon.
  • Get the fee schedule, deposit and cancellation terms in writing.
